چکیده

Mental health and active aging are two of the main concerns in 21st century. To search for new neuroprotective compounds, extracts Codium tomentosum Stackhouse Fucus vesiculosus L. were obtained through multi-step (four step) subcritical water extraction using a temperature gradient. The safety assessment was performed by screening pharmaceutical compounds pesticides UHPLC-MS/MS, iodine arsenic levels ICP-MS. Although free pesticides, presence high contents found first steps. Thus, health-benefits only evaluated fractions steps 3 4 from process. These tested against five brain enzymes implicated Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, major depression etiology as well reactive oxygen nitrogen species, having been observed strong enzyme inhibition radical scavenging activities step both seaweed species. Regarding variation chemical composition during extraction, 1 richest phenolic compounds. With increase temperature, Maillard reaction, caramelization thermo-oxidation occurred, resulting products positively affected antioxidant capacity effects.

Seasonal Variations in Surface Metabolite Composition of Fucus vesiculosus and Fucus serratus from the Baltic Sea

Perennial macroalgae within the genus Fucus are known to exude metabolites through their outer thallus surface. Some of these metabolites have pro- and/or antifouling properties. Seasonal fluctuations of natural fouling pressure and chemical fouling control strength against micro- and macrofoulers have previously been observed in Fucus, suggesting that control strength varies with threat. To da...

Preclinical Evaluation of Safety of Fucoidan Extracts From Undaria pinnatifida and Fucus vesiculosus for Use in Cancer Treatment

OBJECTIVES To evaluate potential hepatic metabolism-mediated drug interactions with fucoidan from Undaria pinnatifida (UPF) or Fucus vesiculosus (FVF) and potential growth inhibition activity with either fucoidan alone or with chemotherapy. In vivo studies were done to confirm safety and investigate fucoidan-mediated immune modulation. METHODS Cytochrome P450 (CYP450) 3A4, 2C8, 2C9, and 2D6 i...

Proximate Composition and Nutritional Value of Three Macroalgae: Ascophyllum nodosum, Fucus vesiculosus and Bifurcaria bifurcata

Proximate composition (moisture, protein, lipid and ash content) and nutritional value (fatty acid, amino acid and mineral profile) of three macroalgae (Ascophyllum nodosum, Fucus vesiculosus and Bifurcaria bifurcate) were studied. Chemical composition was significantly (p < 0.001) different among the three seaweeds. In this regard, the B. bifurcata presented the highest fat content (6.54% of d...

Omnivory and grazer functional composition moderate cascading trophic effects in experimental Fucus vesiculosus habitats

We tested the relative strength of direct versus indirect effects of an aquatic omnivore depending on the functional composition of grazers by manipulating the presence of gastropod and amphipod grazers and omnivorous shrimp in outdoor mesocosms. By selectively preying upon amphipods and reducing their abundance by 70-80%, omnivorous shrimp favoured the dominance of gastropods. While gastropods...

Rhenium uptake and distribution in phaeophyceae macroalgae, Fucus vesiculosus

Owing to Rhenium (Re) having no known biological role, it is not fully understood how Re is concentrated in oil kerogens. A commonly held assumption is that Re is incorporated into decomposing biomass under reducing conditions. However, living macroalgae also concentrate Re to several orders of magnitude greater than that of seawater. This study uses Fucus vesiculosus to assess Re uptake and it...
